Day 3 - Today Julian gets his Port installed. Although he says he would rather keep using the IV that is in his hand. Probably just a little scared. Before we left the nurse gave Julian an anti-anxiety med which makes him quite loopy. As he is pushed to the elevator he is saying to random people "Hey! There are two of you!" He is seeing double. Thankfully, he is having the first good time in days. We roll him up stairs and meet the Anesthesiologist and the Doctor that are performing the installation. After some discussion about the type of Port that is installed, we are told that they will give us a call when he is ready. As we walk away I cannot help but think how strong he is. No tears, just ready to get down to business.

It seemed like like the call came minutes after he was dropped off. He is groggy and sleeps hard.

Julian wakes up just in time to see his teacher, Ms. McReynolds arrive for a visit. She tells us today is Field day at Sacred Heart where Julian attends. It is the biggest day of the year for the kids. My mind has obviously been in a different place. Field day is a whole school team approach to working together on a variety of Activities. The teams are organized in colors. They compete all day long. In the end, the winner declared and the ribbons passed out. This year Julian's team finished last, but Ms. McReynolds gives Julian his 6th Place ribbon - and then she hands him a honorary 1st place ribbon! She also brought down a huge banner that was signed by all the 6th grade. All the kids dedicated the Field Meet to Julian, and put a "J" on their faces.
