A couple minutes before the Transplant started
"Love Child" Julian
September 9th, 2008 is Julian's new birthday!
The Bone Marrow Transplant was completed today simply, efficiently, and according to plan. It was difficult to describe the emotions that I was feeling when the nurse brought the two small bags of Marie's Bone Marrow into the room. I expected something more than the quiet that was erupting from my heart. I am sure it was the stillness of relief. I felt rather silly as I videotaped the bags being hung and inserted into their own line to the Hickman line that ran into Julian's chest. But I wanted to document the event as proof that this is what happened today in this wonderful hospital.
Marie was the one who was hurting today. She has been so amazingly close and patient with Julian for all these months. To see the tears well up in her eyes when they brought her into Julian's room (still in her bed) will be something that I will live in my memory forever. When Julian saw her, and the pain she was in, it caused him to tear up as well. It was as if there was a thank you to her.
For the next two months Julian will be tucked away at Children's Hospital. This is the time for Marie's Stem cells to find their way to Julian's Bone Marrow and begin their new life. Julian has 11 more days of Methotraxate (Chemo) before he gets a break.
Not only was today Julian's new birthday, but it my lucky day as well. It was Nicole and I's Anniversary. I look forward to celebrating this day for many years to come!

It makes me smile to see Julian in all his peace gear, as my mom wore a tie-dye shirt on her BMT day that would fit in perfectly with that outfit! :D
