A Change in Treatment

Julian wasn't the only one: So did his brothers Craig & Taylor, Mike, Uncle George, Uncle Larry, Don (of the Famous Don & Patty), Uncle Tony W. and his son Luke (OK, Luke is less than one and he is bald anyway), I think his Aunt Vicky's husband did it as well. So did Uncle Brad, Uncle Dean, and his Papa Chuck. I half heartedly volunteered but he told me not to. I don't need to surprise a new group with my extreme uneven ears. This I learned in USMC boot camp. It looked like the Doctor when he delivered me grabbed the top of my head and did a full shift with my scalp, it almost looks like my face was added later . . . . sideways. I profusely thanked my son on behalf of the bevy of brides I am working with this Summer.

On a more serious note: We found Friday that Julian has the Philadelphia Chromosome which means that his body will probably go back into relapse after the three year chemo plan. So next week he is being check into Fred Hutchinson to start processing for a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). It wasn't the news I wanted to hear. Children's normally dose not put Kids with ALL type pf Leukemia through a BMT unless they relapse. Thankfully I have plenty of children to get tested as a donor for the BMT. I pray that it is one of them. The process is rigorous, grueling, and it will test Julian's metal. They are basically going to melt his Immune system with a chemo, radiation combo until his immune is a memory. Then plant the stem cells through the port in his chest where they will migrate to HIS bone Marrow and set themselves creating a new Immune system for him. It requires two months in a Hospital room followed by a full year for the Stem cells to replant themselves. He will be basically immobile, and quarantined as an infection will devastate his body.
